Karshi – Samarkand train
Karshi → Samarkand · 150 km
From Karshi the Afrosiyob to Samarkand and Tashkent leaves in the late afternoon and takes about an hour and ten minutes to Samarkand. The Nasaf day trains leave at dawn and in the early evening, and overnight trains from Termez pass through after midnight.
Karshi station is on the edge of the city. Samarkand station is about 15 minutes by taxi from the Registan.
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.

Good to know
- — The 17:29 Afrosiyob arrives in Samarkand in time for the Registan lit up after dark.
- — On Sundays a separate Afrosiyob starts in Shakhrisabz in the afternoon and calls in Karshi on its way north.
- — The cheapest option is a seat in the general carriage of the night train from Termez, but it is crowded and arrives before 05:00.
- — From Shakhrisabz, the direct road to Samarkand is quicker than going via Karshi by train on most days.
