Samarkand – Khiva train
Samarkand → Khiva · 710 km
Samarkand to Khiva is the longest leg of the classic Silk Road route, and the fast Jaloliddin Manguberdi train has turned it into a five-hour ride: depart after breakfast, arrive in Khiva for a late lunch. On some nights a passenger train from Tashkent or Andijan covers the same distance in about ten and a half hours.
Samarkand station is about 15 minutes by taxi from the Registan. Khiva station is a short taxi ride from Ichan-Kala.
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.
If you would rather not deal with the booking site, TourEast can buy the tickets for you on request and send them before you travel, or fold the train into a private itinerary with station transfers.
