From Khiva the fast Jaloliddin Manguberdi train leaves at 07:10 and reaches Tashkent at 15:22, a full day's journey that crosses the Kyzylkum and calls in Bukhara and Samarkand. Overnight sleepers leave in the afternoon and evening and arrive in the capital at dawn, which suits travellers flying home the next day.
Khiva station is a short taxi ride from Ichan-Kala. The fast trains arrive at Tashkent North (Tashkent Central); the sleepers arrive at Tashkent South.
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.

- — If you have an international flight from Tashkent, the evening sleeper arriving at 08:22 leaves a comfortable margin for an afternoon departure.
- — Book a coupe or SV compartment for the night trains; SV has two berths and is the closest to a private cabin.
- — Take the evening train only after a day of sightseeing if your hotel lets you keep a room or a shower until departure; ask when booking.
- — The flight Urgench – Tashkent remains the quickest link; trains are for travellers who enjoy the journey itself.
