Tashkent – Margilan train (for Fergana)

Tashkent → Margilan · 310 km

Margilan, the silk town of the valley, is also the station for Fergana city, a 20-minute drive away. The fast morning train arrives in under four hours. Trains to the Fergana Valley climb over the Kamchik Pass through a long tunnel opened in 2016, the only rail link to the valley that stays inside Uzbekistan. Passenger trains from Khorezm and Termez and an evening fast train complete the timetable.

Fast and day trains use Tashkent North (Tashkent Central). Margilan station is the rail stop for Fergana city, about 15 km and 20 minutes by taxi away.

Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.

If you would rather not deal with the booking site, TourEast can buy the tickets for you on request and send them before you travel, or fold the train into a private itinerary with station transfers.

Good to know

  • — Search for Margilan, not Fergana, when booking: Margilan is the station on the main line.
  • — The Yodgorlik silk factory in Margilan is best visited on a weekday morning, so the 07:20 train works well with a night in Fergana first.
  • — A taxi from Margilan station to central Fergana takes about 20 minutes.
  • — Passenger trains are cheaper than the fast train but take two hours longer.
