Tashkent – Kokand train
Tashkent → Kokand · 230 km
Kokand, the old khanate capital at the western gate of the valley, is about three hours from Tashkent on the fast morning train. Trains to the Fergana Valley climb over the Kamchik Pass through a long tunnel opened in 2016, the only rail link to the valley that stays inside Uzbekistan. Passenger trains from Khorezm and Termez continue through Kokand towards Andijan in the late morning, and an evening fast train runs on several days a week.
Fast and day trains use Tashkent North (Tashkent Central). Margilan station is the rail stop for Fergana city, about 15 km and 20 minutes by taxi away.
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.

Good to know
- — The 07:20 fast train leaves a full afternoon for the Khudoyar Khan palace and the Juma Mosque.
- — The through passenger trains have berths, not seats; on a daytime journey you simply sit on the lower berth.
- — Kokand is the usual first stop of a valley loop; Rishtan's potters are 40 minutes away by car.
- — The road over the Kamchik Pass is scenic but closes or slows in heavy snow; the train runs through the tunnel in all weather.
