Tashkent – Nukus train
Tashkent → Nukus · 1150 km
Nukus, the capital of Karakalpakstan, is the starting point for the Savitsky Museum, the desert fortresses of ancient Khorezm and the road to Muynak and the Aral Sea. The train is an overnight affair: the daily Express 054 leaves Tashkent South in the late afternoon and arrives in Nukus the next morning after about sixteen hours, travelling through Samarkand, Navoi and the Kyzylkum. A second, slower train from the Fergana Valley calls in Tashkent after midnight on three days a week.
The 054 leaves from Tashkent South. Nukus station is a short taxi ride from the Savitsky Museum.
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.railway.uz, and in its UzRailways Tickets app, as well as at station ticket offices. Every ticket is issued to a named passenger, so you need the passport number when you buy and the passport itself when you board. Sales usually open about 45 days ahead, and the popular departures sell out well before that window closes in spring and autumn.
If you would rather not deal with the booking site, TourEast can buy the tickets for you on request and send them before you travel, or fold the train into a private itinerary with station transfers.

- — A flight to Nukus takes about two hours from Tashkent if you are short of time; the train is for those who want to see the desert.
- — From Nukus, the road trip to Muynak and the Aral Sea shore takes a full day; we can arrange the car and guide.
